as a kid, riley had always believed the bustling city life was the one for her. she'd spent countless hours holed up in her room in ireland with a cup of tea and a magazine, searching through the pictures with awe. of course, once she'd finally moved to buffalo, life wasn't what she'd imagined. skyscrapers filled the sky, obscuring her view of the stars. cars whizzed past at all hours of the night, threatening to crush her delicate frame as she crossed the street. but worst of all was the crowded number of houses in every neighbourhood, threatening to burst with the amount of people they contained. in short, riley was more than a little disappointed - she missed the rolling hills, the vast amounts of farmland, the crisp mornings and cold nights that ireland provided.
the only thing buffalo offered that was remotely similar to her life back home was the golfcourses. most afternoons after work, riley snuck through the back fences and set up camp on the greens. nothing elaborate, of course - just a sandwich, a blanket, and a book. she avoided popular areas to ensure she wouldn't be seen, but sometimes it was unavoidable. some days, she'd get peculiar stares from golfers, stiff waves, and shouts to get off the property. did she ever listen? of course not. without the time spent at the greens, she didn't know where she'd be.
today, however, was one of those unfortunate days where privacy evaded her. as she'd just been about to settle down in her usual spot to read, she was shaken out of her reverie by the sound of squealing tires and maniacal laughter. eyes wide, the blonde looked up from her page in time to watch a bright yellow convertible swing past her and skid to a stop. mouth practically hanging open in shock, she dropped her book in her lap and blinked in surprise before she was able to muster up a reply. are you insane! she screamed, bolting straight up from her spot on the lawn. you could have killed me!
