juniper's mom had called four times so far that day, and she wasn't exactly thrilled about it. however, she let the thoughts of her mom slide away as she spun in circles in her computer chair. the fact that she had managed to get off of work for the weekend was joyous enough to make any angry thoughts of her mom disappear into the back of her mind. barnes and noble had been a little short staffed lately, so she had been getting a lot of extra hours. it was nice for the pay, but it wasn't exactly how she wanted to spend every weekend when she could be home with balto.
marriage terrified june, even when she thought about it with balto. she always worried 'what if he realizes that he doesn't love me?' or other things equally as irrational. if june was a psychiatrist she would tell herself it was because of her parents' divorce and her mom's marriage hopping, but she didn't like to think about either. she wasn't in touch with her parents for a reason. instead, she had balto, and that was all she needed. she loved him with all her heart. and that's exactly why she sat at the ready for him to come in the door, excited to see his face.

between med school and working at starbucks, sometimes it felt like balto hardly ever had the time to relax. sure, most evenings were spent at home, but that time was usually dedicated to studying. it was the moments when he and june were both free to be silly that he looked forward to most, and what he loved the most about the girl. with june, he was able to forget about the stress of passing his next exam and showing up on time for work. it was one of the rare moments he was able to actually enjoy himself.
marriage was something balto had always seen in his future, and he was almost there. he'd found the perfect girl, and he couldn't have been happier. the only problem of course, was that june wasn't too keen on it, and despite his reassurances that he was there to stay nothing seemed to change her mind. luckily, balto wasn't the type to push anything on those he loved, and he was willing to wait. hell, he'd still be next to her if it never happened.
bursting through the front door of the apartment, balto tossed his bag onto the dining room table before sliding across the hardwood to meet june's lips with a hello kiss. hey, love. he smiled, scrambling off to the office to grab the other chair. sailing back into the room, arms spread out in front of him, balto came to an abrupt stop right beside her. alright. the rules.. there are none. first one that gets to the bedroom from the front hall wins. turning towards her, he planted another kiss on her cheek. one.. two.. three.. go!

every second with balto was as important to june as money was to most people. with him always busy with medical school, her with studying to be a teacher, and both of them working, there wasn't exactly a lot of time for them to actually be together other than before bed. and even then there were times when they would end up asleep at different times. however, all june cared about was the fact that she has balto there for her every day that she needed him. even better, he was there for her even though he knew about her flaws and all. he was the one person that june was and always would be one hundred percent comfortable with. he was her balto, the love of his life.
june's eyes sparkled the second that balto came inside. she kissed him quickly, giggling as he ran off. she got herself ready, nodding. no rules, got it. she giggled again, grinning widely. she kicked off as he said go, nearly falling out of her chair in the process. oh! quickly, june straightened out and kept going, even if she was a little behind now. her short legs really didn't help much, but oh well. finally, she made it to the final spot and fell out of her chair, laughing wildly. oopsie.

being with june had its obstacles, but that much was expected - no relationship was easy. there was rent, groceries, and trying to squeeze a couple hours of sleep between school and work. all in all, their life could get stressful beyond words, but balto wouldn't have changed a thing. he loved their small apartment, the fact that sometimes they had grilled cheese three times in one day, and that the moments they had to relax were spent doing things like racing office chairs.
speeding ahead of her, balto couldn't keep from laughing. his chair was spinning madly as it flew down the hall, his head spinning with it. fuuuuuuuuck, he moaned, stomach churning when he finally came to a stop. lifting himself off his seat slowly, he sank to the ground next to june, arm resting over his eyes as he gained his balance. note to self, no more spinning. he mumbled, laughing lightly.

the way that june saw it, nothing easy was worth it. if something came really easily, that would mean that she didn't get the excitement of working for it and the feeling of success for getting just what she had worked so hard for. being with balto was one of those things that she couldn't give up on, and wouldn't give up on. she was in it for the long run, whether they were married or not. june rolled onto her side, looking over at balto on the ground next to her. hey honey, remember that spinning leads to dizziness. she winked, leaning closer and kissing his forehead.
june rested her head against his chest and closed her eyes for a few moments. so whatchya making me for dinner? she rolled to look up at him, grinning widely. her stomach growled, a little loudly for her liking. woah. crazy stomach, shush. with a laugh, june sat up and crossed her legs indian style, looking down at balto with a smile. i'm thinking some steak and mashed potatoes, yeah? she joked, giggling. just kidding.

with a coy grin, balto peeked at her from under the shelter of his arm. right, right. i forgot that's why i never ride the teacups. dropping his arm from his eyes, he scooted closer to june and kissed her lightly on the forehead. so, no more chair races for a while.
what's for dinner, huh? he asked, staring at the ceiling blankly. with a snort, he wrapped an arm around her and poked her stomach. the monster has spoken.. he started, watching as she sat up and joked about steak and potatoes. mm, not sure about that, he answered, eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled. but i make a mean burger and fries. that sound good? he asked, pushing himself up.
