You ask jasmyn what she did all summer and if she thought it was worthwhile she would answer you with saying that she tutored young kids all summer and that she did think it was worthwhile. Jasmyn’s a very smart girl, intelligent even. Her parents only accept the best and nothing less. They make her do all of these volunteering and extra courses so that colleges will want to give her scholarships and want to accept her. Her parents are expecting her to go to Harvard or Yale for school. Jasmyn doesn’t do anything about it; her parents are fully paying for college and all of the expenses. The good part about going to a school that’s not nearby is that it’s away from them and everybody in her family that wants her to be a lawyer or a doctor. If jasmyn had her choice then she would be a professional cook or own her own bakery. She had always wanted to do that, own a bakery or be a baker of some sort. She just wanted to work with food, and that did not mean that she wanted to be a waitress. But her parents wouldn’t accept her if she ended up being a baker. They want her to have a good job and marry someone with lots of money and a good job, and that didn’t even mean that if she’s happy with a guy with lots of money and a good job then she will marry him. It means that she will marry someone that has a lot of money and a good job, minus the part about them being happy together and loving each other. Jasmyn hated the thought of it, marrying someone only for the money they have and the presents they could give her. Two more weeks were left in summer, which means that there were two weeks left of freedom for her till the homework and studying starts piling up. She didn’t mind the work and studying, she actually somewhat enjoyed it. It also gave her an excuse for being in her room and away from her parents. And when she got good grades her parents gave her something in return, like money or a present or they let her go out for the weekend with her friends to the house they owned in Hollywood. Jasmyn couldn’t see why her parents would need more money, they had more than enough. They had enough money so that they could have four houses; a beach house in the Hamptons, a house in Hollywood, a house they lived in year round in bluewater and a house in Vermont for when they go sking every winter. It was more than enough. Even though school wasn’t in session for two or three more weeks Jasmyn still went for a cooking class. It wasn’t the cooking they learn in school, it was more of a “fun” cooking class, learning how to make pastry’s and learn how wedding cakes are made. There were no tests; it’s an extra course, like how they have the arts courses in the summer for those art crazed kids. At this very moment there wasn’t very much to do. She just had to wait for her cake to be done. Today, they could pretty much do whatever they wanted. It was a Friday, and the teacher was giving them the freedom to make their own masterpiece.
