that's why, the moment faun saw dev's name, about a million different feelings rushed through her body at one time. abandonment, hope, fear, joy..she wasn't sure which one to embrace first. she slipped on her cream toms, chewing down on her fingernails; a habit she developed in primary school when she was nervous. what if he didn't like her anymore? what if he thought she was annoying? what if he has a girlfriend? faun stopped her train of thought right there. it didn't matter if he had a girlfriend. they broke up a long time ago. things were different now.
by now she was in the car, pressing the gas harder as she sped through a yellow light. the shrimp shack wasn't far from her new department, she discovered, as she turned into the small parking lot. with her car in park, faun flipped down the sun visor, looking into the small mirror. she could see the fear and hope in her own eyes. she shook her head and stepped out of her car, feeling raindrops fall on her head. she looked up and saw the stormy sky, gray clouds spilling over the horizon. an omen? she shook her head again; these thoughts were occupying too much of her brain. the restaurant was warm as she stepped inside, moving out of the way of the door as she waited for dev. |

The last few months had been a complete blur to Dev. It was as if one minute he was having dinner with his dad, betting on the football game, and in the next moment he was holding his father's hand in the hospital bed. Dev had shut himself off for a while, just floated through the days, until finally he snapped back into reality. He had made his father a promise, and he was going to make sure he completed it. So he'd applied to work as a children's football coach in Bluewater, where Mr Jogia told him his ex-wife had moved to. He'd packed his things and he'd shipped out. Dev had no idea how he was supposed to find this brother, a brother he'd never seen, that he knew nothing about. He'd search his mother's name multiple times on engines, yet found nothing. Had she changed her name? Gotten married? But Dev was sure about one thing, his brother's eyes would look just like his. It sounded like something you'd see out of a movie, but it was the only thing he had set his hope on.
Dev was used to moving around, always relocating and starting his life anew, so coming to Bluewater hadn't been a problem. There had always been a single constant he'd counted on, which was never knowing anyone. But he'd already ran across his ex-girlfriend in the town's chatroom. He'd been completely shocked, but happy at the same time. All memories he had with Faun were good ones, there was nothing wrong with having her here. Dev had thrown on a clean grey shirt and a pair of khaki shorts before heading out the door of his beach house. He wandered down to the restaurant, greeting the owner before seating himself. Eventually, he spotted the familiar brunette walk in and he waved at her. "Hey over, here," he gave her his usual comfortable half smile. Dev wasn't a smiler, he hardly ever did it fully.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] ALL I EVER WANTED WAS JUST TO MAKE YOU SEE The Words: enough The Outfit: maybe laterrr The Notes faun wasn't completely sure why she moved to bluewater. life had been going well in indiana: her family was happy, she had great mates, and a few fantastic scholarships lined up for the local university. she was happy where she was. but there came her mum, telling her that being around parker would be good for her, that she could do just as well in school in california as in indiana. faun felt like she was almost pushed out of the state, as if even she wanted to stay, her mother would have packed her stuff and sent it out to parker. no matter what, she was moving.
so here she was, walking towards her ex-boyfriend, a smile plastered on her face; she wasn't sure herself if it was real or fake. she waved, somewhat awkwardly and then reached up and rubbed the back of her neck. faun wasn't normally nervous like this; she was usually the one with something to say, holding nothing back. but dev brought out a different side of her..and she wasn't quite sure if she liked it or not. she reached the table, sitting down across from him. hi she knew that he wasn't big into smiling, and she was used to make up the difference. smiling was her..thing. how're you, dev? it's been a..while she smiled, genuinely. |
