one thing about sydney that most people wouldn't guess from first glance was that she was deaf. her face wasn't an uncommon one to see, but not many people knew real details about syd's life. they knew what she said in her youtube videos, and they knew that she was related to johnny depp. that was about it. not many people cared how she was or anything, they were just in it for the videos or because they thought she would introduce them to johnny. that wasn't how it worked, though. sydney hadn't even introduced her closest friends to the guy, because she hardly saw him herself. syd had met quite a few youtube famous people, she'd been to youtube live, all that stuff. she was still just sydney, though. a rich kid who had too much time on her hands and couldn't actually hear.
when she was three years old was when she became deaf. she got sick and her hearing never fully repaired. her parents could have easily gotten her surgery, but instead they got her a hearing aid. it makes it easier to feel the music and to read lips, but she can't actually hear. speech therapy classes helped her to be able to speak, rather than being stuck with just sign language. such as when she was in public, like she was then. syd smiled to the worker at the ice cream parlor as she handed her the banana ice cream with gummy bears and a spoon. "thank you." she headed over to an empty table and sat by herself, focusing on the ice cream in front of her and letting herself relax, glad to get out of the house for more than to make a video.
