some things are just able to ruin all chances at feeling something. love was one of those things that quin was just too scared to feel. quin had dated a girl or two, but only one of them had ever been serious. it had been when he was fifteen, and he was with a family for more than a few months for once. thing was, he lived in the middle of the ghetto, just like almost every other home he'd hopped back and forth with. this city was different, though. it had her. quin had liked mikayla from the moment he saw her, so it was only natural that he asked her out. after a few months, he took her out and told her he loved her as they were walking back to her house. everything seemed fine up until when one of the guys from their school showed up. turns out he was in a gang, and he had some of his buddies with him. none of them were in the best of moods, and when quin tried getting them to leave mikayla and him alone, they got madder. quin still had the images in his brain. they beat him up a little, but what she got was so much worse. that was the last time he saw mikayla, and after that he was automatically switched to a different home. two more homes and he was in bluewater, adopted, comfortable. until he met annah.
quin had been perfectly fine with being forever alone. he couldn't see himself loving another girl, even if he was a crazy romantic. the thought of telling another girl he loved her scared the living hell out of him. what if he was cursed or something? every girl he told he loved was going to die or something. but annah made quin feeling things he'd only felt that one other time, and this time they were escalated. they'd slept together, had sleepovers, spent days on end together and he never got sick of her, even though she reassured him time and time again that he was going to. clocking out of work, quin headed into the staff lounge, locking the door behind him so he could change without anyone walking in. after he was all cleaned up, work clothes stuffed into his duffle bag, he put the duffle bag into his locker that he'd gotten when he was appointed manager. he looked around for annah to walk in so he could bring her passed the line of people waiting for tickets. one of the perks of the job, free movies. he shuffled on his feet, shifting the weight from one foot to the other repeatedly as he adjusted the hat on his head.

when it came to feelings, annah had never been very good at expressing them. it wasn't that she didn't like to, things just tended to come out jumbled and confused even though she tried to make things fluid and easy to understand. it was like every time she wanted to say something meaningful or sincere, it always came out like a four year old trying to tell their puppy they loved it. even when it came to being with someone she was completely comfortable with, annah tended to freeze up with nerves, as quin had been subjected to many times. it wasn't self-confidence issues, or self-esteem problems, or the fear of being rejected. it was just annah.. being annah. so instead of vocalizing her emotions, she tended to do little things to show people she cared. like offer to cook her brothers breakfast when they slept in too late, clean the house for her mom after a long day of work, and sneak kisses to quin when he least expected them.
stepping into the theater lobby, annah quickly pocketed her phone after reassuring orion she'd made it safely. the fact that he constantly demanded to know where she was got on her nerves, but she knew well enough to understand that he was just looking after her. with a roll of her eyes, annah wandered in a few steps, eyes scanning the crowd for quin's familiar face. when she didn't spot him right away, she stepped up onto her toes, smiling once she finally spotted the back of his hat. cutting through the crowd, annah stepped up behind him and covered his eyes with her hands, a breathy laugh escaping her lips as she leaned forward to whisper in his ear, guess who.

annah was the first girl after mikayla, and he wanted her to be the last. not in a break up with her and never date again way, but in a be with her as long as he could way. he liked how she did little things to show that she cared instead of expressing it all the time. it made it a lot easier for him to not slip up and say those three little words he was way too afraid to say. he'd been nervous enough to sing falling for you to her, and he wasn't even directly saying the words. sometimes quin felt like a complete idiot. who was he kidding? he was falling head over heels for annah and there was no way to stop it. he didn't want to stop it. he just.. he was terrified, to say the least. quin would never be able to forgive himself if something happened to annah and it was his fault. he was tired of holding back what he was feeling, but he knew he'd never actually be able to say that he loved her, not on purpose.
quin didn't have to let anyone know where he was when, because his dad really didn't care. he was always gone at work and picking up girls anyway, so as long as quin wasn't hurt and wasn't off having a kid he was fine. one of the reasons he was scared of sleeping with annah was just that, but they were always safe. he didn't want to end up like his parents and have a kid so young. the only difference was that he had money now, and he was actually responsible. why the hell was he even thinking about that? shaking his head, quin soon felt hands over his eyes and a familiar whisper in his ear that send a shiver to run down his spine. he reached up to take her hands in his own, turning around to face her and keep hold of her hands. hey, beautiful. quin leaned down a bit to kiss her for a moment. what movie d'you wanna see?

out of the couple of guys annah had been with, quin was the only one that actually meant something to her. most guys she spent time with had never been to her house, or visited her dad, or even knew about her family situation, but quin had already been through all three. it would have been ridiculous to deny the fact that annah was falling for quin, what with all the time they spent together and the cute smiles she got when he crossed her mind. indirectly telling him she liked him was annah's specialty, and though most girls her age would have been begging to hear the three little words, annah was perfectly content to live with cute songs and baths together every now and then.
hey good looking, she smiled, lifting herself up onto her toes again to meet him halfway. dropping one of his hands, annah shrugged. uhm.. i dunno. pausing, she looked towards the board that offered show times, how about.. winnie the pooh? with a grin, annah winked and squeezed his hand gently before adding, whatever you wanna see is okay with me. to be honest, annah didn't really mind what movie they saw, she was easy going, and rarely made a fuss over anything.

quin had seen just about every movie out, mostly from staying late from work and just hanging around. it wasn't exactly like he looked forward to going home, anyway. on nights that he didn't head home right away and didn't stick at the theater, he usually ended up either heading over to annah's or meeting up with her. they were practically inseperable, and he was perfectly fine with that. everything was fun when she was around, because nothing was forced. he was just relaxed, able to do his thing with songs and cuddling and stuff. they didn't have to talk to have a good time, and they didn't have to have sex, either. it was comforting being with annah. she made stuff better.
he didn't even have to look at the list of movies to know what was out, but he looked anyway. he'd stayed after work to watch friends with benefits on opening night, and every movie on the list he had seen at one point or another, with or without annah. he was beginning to become a movie addict. pft. or.. how 'bout friends with benefits since you couldn't make it to it with me opening night? he suggested with a smile. still holding her hand, he headed over to the concession stand to get some popcorn and sodas with her. had he not worked there, he would've busted his wallet out in a heartbeat. one of the perks of working there, though, especially as a manager.

though annah spent a lot of her time at the movies with quin, she was never truly up-to-date with what was out and popular. sure, she saw commercials every now and then, but that was only when her brothers weren't hogging the tv for their horror movie obsessions or video game addictions. quin was the movie expert, and if she was going to spend a couple of hours watching something, she trusted his judgement. hell, she would have even if he didn't work at the theater. just hanging out with him was enough for annah, even though most -- if not all -- their free time was spent together already; the quality of the movie wasn't really what she was concerned about, though it was always a plus.
ye', sure. annah smiled, following him as he lead her towards the concession stand. that's the one with mila kunis, right? she asked, leaning against the counter as he got their popcorn and sodas. .. 'cause she's fuckin' hot. she added lightly, grabbing a straw from the holder and twirling it in her fingers before smiling at the cashier and offering a thank you. i mean.. when i'm not busy checkin' you out.

if there was one thing that quin knew, it was movies. he spent so much time around the theater, hearing people's reviews and seeing movies to have his own opinion on them. he could give a summary of every movie that came to the theater if he really wanted, and point out what parts are popular to what age group. he could point out just what was going to happen when, as long as he hadn't seen the movie with annah. if he saw it by himself he focused on the movie, pointing things out. but with annah, he'd come to realize fast that there wasn't much watching that went on most times that he brought her here. like when she visited on his breaks, for example.
he nodded, watching as the guy got the popcorn and soda. ye', mila and j.t. he paused, blinking and looking over at annah with a raised eyebrow. he grabbed onto his soda and the popcorn, rolling his eyes. you know how to check me out through closed eyes? skills. quin winked, not even having to look at the signs to know where the movie was playing. he had to know just where each movie was playing in case of emergencies, such as sneak ins that actually got caught. good thing about being seventeen, his supervisor couldn't get mad at him for seeing rated r movies.

despite her quiet personality, annah wasn't the best person to take to the movies. it wasn't that she talked while she was in the theater, she just.. liked distracting people, and the fact that she didn't have to pay for tickets meant that she could distract quin all she wanted without feeling guilty. there had been several occasions that she'd tried to focus on the screen, but by the end she had no idea what had gone on, and to be honest.. it didn't really bother her, and if it bothered quin, he didn't show it.
aight, sweet. annah smiled, reaching for her soda as they turned to leave the concession stand. ripping the wrapping on her straw, she popped it through the lid easily before rolling her eyes at him. ha, ha. she smirked, lifting it to her lips to take a quick sip as they headed toward the theaters. if i'm so busy with my eyes closed, what's the point of this? she asked, lifting the drink and shaking it lightly. s'not like we ever drink them anyways.

distractions were something that quin could handle, especially if they were coming from annah. distractions meant that if his mind was going to trail away, it wasn't going to be onto subjects that he didn't want to think about. it was usually things that probably weren't too appropriate, but that was usually annah's fault. he was a guy, those thoughts weren't exactly easy to control when you had a gorgeous girl doing everything in her power to distract you.
quin shrugged, popping some popcorn into his mouth as they walked. 'cause it's free and you can drink it when you get home? never turn down free shit. he laughed, popping some more popcorn into his mouth and turning into the theater. it was basically empty, only a couple couples scattered around the theater. he didn't even hesitate to start heading up the steps to the back row, plopping down in one of the chairs and shoving his drink into the holder so he could eat more popcorn. have i ever told you look better with the lights off? he teased, winking. kidding.

annah had never been the girl to sleep around, or flirt, or follow guys until she was noticed. she wasn't innocent by any means, but she was far from being considered a slut, and it was something she was proud of. sure, she wasn't exactly subtle with her pda, or her distractions in the back of the theater, but it wasn't something she would ever be ashamed of showing. for annah, the physical side of a relationship had always been easy. besides, with a guy like quin around.. it was hard to keep her hands to herself.
aight, fine. you've got a point. annah laughed, stepping in quickly as the door to the theater swung shut behind her. the trek to the back row was hardly anything new, and as she settled down into her chair, she kicked up her feet to rest on the seats in front of her. with a smile, she rested her elbows on the armrests and took another sip of her drink before snorting in response to his comment. 'cause i'm pre' much invisible in the dark? she joked, bumping her knees together as the previews started. no worries, though. you look better from behind.

quin had moved around too much to keep a stable relationship, other than mikayla. most homes he was in he was only there for a week or so, and he wasn't the type of guy to just have a week long fling with a girl when he knew he'd be gone just as quickly as he'd gotten there. he was big on the whole romance thing, even if it all scared him. he'd rather make a girl happy than lead them on just to leave them when he got scared. that's why he hadn't left annah. okay, that wasn't exactly why. he hadn't left annah because he was certain of how much he liked her, and he didn't want to lose her. that's exactly what scared him, though. he was pretty sure he felt more for annah than he had for mikayla, which was a frightening thought. and yet, he always wanted her around. he was always smiling when she was with him or texting him or he was even thinking about her. it was funny, how your heart could take over anything your brain didn't want.
quin took his hat off as he sat down in his chair, placing it in his lap as he got situated. he put the popcorn down on the ground and took a huge drink of his soda, making sure he got any kernals. yup. invisibility is the new pink, er whatever. laughing, quin draped his arm over annah's shoulder, scooting closer as the lights dimmed the rest of the way. my ass is just that hot, huh? he laughed lightly again, squeezing her shoulder playfully.

annah wasn't afraid of falling, but it was something she'd never experienced before, and to say it didn't make her nervous was an understatement. she didn't mind the butterflies, or the little smiles, or the tugs on her heartstrings, but every time she went to tell quin how she felt, she choked up and backed out before she was able to get a word out. to be honest, she wasn't sure what made her so nervous about admitting to the fact that she had more than just a crush on him, but the hesitation was there nonetheless and she'd become quite comfortable keeping her emotions to herself.
damn, then i should be goin' out more at night, annah laughed, looking up at him with a smile as his arm found it's way around her shoulders. shifting in her own seat, annah rested her head against his shoulder and reached over for her drink another time. mm, ye'. definitely your best feature. she joked, licking her lips. eyes focusing on the screen, she watched as the preview began and ended, but with little interest.

most people saw quin as the confident kid. the kid that had been through a lot but he still held his head high. the romantic kid that wasn't afraid to make a complete fool out of himself to ask a girl out or show her how much she meant to him. that was the thing, though. quin wasn't that kid completely. inside, he had a million insecurities. he was terrified of a lot of stuff, and telling a girl he loved her was his number one. it had almost slipped out quite a few times with annah, and that's what scared him the most. all it would take was one moment of weakness and he'd be running for dear life.
quin shrugged gently. s'why i always come over at night. duh. one thing that always settled all of quin's insecurities and fears was having annah close. sometimes he wondered if that was a good or a bad thing, though. it meant a lot of moments when he nearly spoke up about how he felt, which was always a little scary. i would say yours was your best feature.. but all your features are pre' amazin'. quin grinned, kissing the top of her head as the previews passed.

annah didn't have many insecurities, besides her nervousness about sharing her feelings. she was completely comfortable in her body, with her home life, and everything in between. sure, there were moments she fiddled with her clothes, or fixed her hair until it was how she liked it, but it wasn't because she was concerned with her appearance or how people perceived her -- she just had a tendency to fidget with her clothes when she was bored, or when she was trying not to blush too brightly.
i was gettin' curious about that.. she laughed, shrugging nonchalantly as her knees bumped together to the rhythm of the song in the preview. humming along quietly, annah lifted her hand to hold his, fingers lacing with his easily. uhm.. she paused, blushing softly. yours too, annah mumbled, smiling as he kissed the top of her head. turning in her seat, she tilted her chin enough to peck him lightly on the lips before settling back down for the opening credits.

one of the things that quin was kinda insecure about was the fact that people always bugged him that he looked like justin bieber. if it wasn't enough that he sang, it was the looks, too. in quin's defence, he definitely had the haircut first. he shook the thought away, drinking some of his soda and taking a deep breath to calm his head. his had started to slip a bit, but he quickly put it back in place before it hit the nasty floor. he knew how most of the cleaners only half assed their job, so he wasn't going to dare letting the new hat touch the ground. when it started slipping again, he balanced it on the chair next to him, then focusing on annah.
quin laughed as well, shrugging. guess the secret's out. he looked at their hands as annah laced her fingers with his, grinning and giving her hand a gentle squeeze. none of the sounds of the room even mattered, 'cause he was content with sitting like that forever as long as he had his girl close. quin smiled, holding back the victorious grin he usually got when he made her speechless. he loved being able to do that to her with only a few words of the truth. he kissed her back softly, a bit disappointed when she pulled back and settled into her seat. he readjusted and brought his lips back to hers, for longer this time. iloveyou. quin completely froze. he stood up, grabbing his had and practically running to the door, sitting down once he got out of there. he took a deep breath, his chest pounding up and down quickly as he breathed. fuckfuckfuck.. he mumbled under his breath, closing his eyes and covering them with his hat.
