how was is that her parents never seemed to factor in how dixie was going to feel about moving clearly across the country to a new high school and away from her best friends, including tripp. her parents had set her up with their friend's son, tripp, hoping that it would keep both of the children on a straight path in high school. they only dated each other and did all of the normal things that teenagers did, except have sex. this of course was one thing that dixie had sworn to her parents that she wouldn't ever do until she was completely ready and had graduated from high school already. though, a rumor had gone around school, claiming that the couple had slept together and that dixie was pregnant. this couldn't be true, but somehow, the information had gotten to dixie's parents and they just wouldn't believe their daughter when she had sworn on her life that she was still a virgin. that's how the family made it to california. a job opportunity had opened up for dixie's father across the country and after hearing rumors of her daughter's sexual interaction, he decided that he would take on the new opportunity.
little did dixie know, her parents told her that they were going on vacation for a week. meanwhile, back in atlanta, dixie's aunt and uncle had packed everything in the nottingham's home and sent the moving vans on their way to california. the poor girl never even got to say goodbye to tripp, her only true friend, nor tell him that she was completely in love with him and everything about him. dixie had been enrolled in a new high school, much different than her last, but never once forgot about tripp. there were a handful of new boys trying to get to know dixie, but none of them was the guy for her and she ended up being called a prude by many of these males. the pretty young blonde didn't care though, she just wanted to get through high school as quickly as she possibly could so that she would be able to go back to atlanta and be reunited with her love.
sitting on the beach, the warm air blowing her hair from side to side, dixie knew that california would be a fun place to live, only great if the love of her life was there to share the experience with her. she knew that she shouldn't mope around over a boy, but dixie had always been close with tripp, even when they were younger. he was the first boy she had ever danced with, held hands with, and had her cheek kissed by. there was just something about him that she just couldn't get out of her mind on a constant basis. it had only been a few weeks since dixie had started her new school in california, but she didn't have many friends. she wasn't sure whether it was because she wasn't being very sociable, whether it was because she was new, or whether it was because the students around her were talking about her behind her back. either way, dixie knew that her junior and senior years at this california school were going to be very different from her freshman and sophmore years in atlanta, not to mention, lonely.
